SOLDIER’S PRIDE IS NATION’S SECURITY

SOLDIER’S PRIDE IS NATION’S SECURITY (OROP)

By

Lt Gen PG Kamath (Veteran)

“A lot of Faujis would know Lt Gen PG Kamath (Veteran). He does not write Retd, I am following suit now. He has written a brilliant piece on OROP. This one has all the rationale and logic clear. Makes mince meat out of any other argument. Unfortunately not on any domain or website. As such I am posting the entire script here. - LT GEN ATA HASNAIN”

It was post 1971 and the nation was euphoric. Our countrymen were lauding the Indian Armed Forces for a spectacular victory that had changed the geography of the sub-continent. The nation was savouring the victory and more than 97,368 prisoners were in our Prisoners of War Camps. It was the second largest surrender in the Military History; second only to the surrender of Gen Von Paulus, German, 6th Army at Stalingrad in the Second World War. The Armed Forces were feted everywhere for its courage and the people were convinced that it was one instrument that would never let the country down.

Amidst this euphoria there were 4000 families, who had lost their

**WILL**

YOUR WILL AND TESTAMENT
(VERY VERY IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT)

We have time and again stressed on our readers to prepare their will so that their families donot have to rum from pillar to post after the veteran has left for his heavenly abode. It is a very simple document which needs no expertise or legal opinion. One can write in manuscript on a plain paper and express his WILL for distribution of his assets in the manner one feels like. In the absence of a WILL your wife and children will get equal share each after long long procedures in the civil court for succession certificate. One must know the lineage who all can claim part of the assets which will render into endless court hearings.

Before proceeding further we invite you to go through our posts on the subject as mentioned below :-

MILITARY MEDALS

TRADITION IS PRETTY OLD  👇

This is a very old rule, prevalent in the Army. Please see this iconic painting of the family of CHM Chhelu Ram of Rajputana Rifles who was awarded a posthumous VC in World War II. His father, wife and son went to UK to receive the award. His son is shown wearing the VC on the right of his chest.👇

YOUR-WILL WHY A MUST FOR VETERANS

WHY MAKING AN APPROPRIATE WILL IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR VETERANS

(YOU CAN  IGNORE THIS AT THE PERIL OF YOUR SPOUSE)

It is unfortunate that most of us have no understanding of the importance of making a WILL . They keep pending or simply ignore. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT Th
e wife is not the only Natural Heir of the person, after the death of the officer all his properties will be distributed equally among his wife and children.  It is equally valid in case of the wife as well. The Indian succession Act a copy of which is available on this site is very clear on this distribution to all the legal heirs. The big question here is whether you will not like to leave your wife as MASTER and absolute owner of all your assets or leave her to share your assets with children thereby denying her the right of being an independent QUEEN in her remaining life, rather than being partly or wholly dependent on children.
